Are those cheaper (24$) hdmi to vga converters [1] actually worked for anyone? For me those seem to be fake, too cheap and too small, no any external power.
- All reports are that they won't work, as HDMI is a digital signal and VGA an analogue one. Tufty 06:56 24 February 2012 (UTC)

The BCM2835 GPU is capable of driving DPI video, up to 6 bits on 3 channels, directly from the GPU. Hardware such as https://www.adafruit.com/product/2454 exploit this (sacrificing most of the GPIOs). This requires configuration of the GPU as well as an overlay for Linux.
Anyhow, I believe this capability deserves mention.
