La Raspberry Pi (abreviado: RPi) es un equipo Linux de muy bajo coste (~16GBP, ~19€ o 25USD Modelo-A / ~23GBP, ~27€ o 32USD Modelo-B), del tamaño de una tarjeta de crédito, diseñada para la enseñanza de la programación, orientado a los niños.

Es desarrollada por la Fundación Raspberry Pi, organización benéfica registrada en Reino Unido (Número de registro 1129409).

La fundación fue creada para promover el estudio de las ciencias de la computación y temas relacionados, especialmente a nivel escolar, y convertir en divertido el estudio de la computación.

Esperamos que este ordenador tenga muchas más aplicaciones, tanto en países desarrollados como subdesarrollados.

  • El precio previsto es 25$ para el modelo A, y 35$ para el modelo B.
  • Disponibilidad estimada (a 31 de diciembre del 2011) es a finales de enero del 2012 para el primer lote de 10.000. El 31 de diciembre del 2011 a las 22:00, la fundación subasta primero 2 de las 10 placas beta en una subasta de 7 días. Las 8 placas restantes fueron subastadas los días siguientes. Inicialmente, no se enviará desde el Reino Unido y, posiblemente, los EE.UU, pero probablemente se ampliará con los distribuidores locales en el segundo trimestre de 2012.
