    • The graphical user interface (GUI) is an important element for any application but it is especially vital when the device, and it’s proper or improper use, impacts human life. When every second counts, having an intuitive user experience that reduces human error and streamlines device use is as important as ensuring safety and security. How can developer’s best manage these requirements while still meeting the accelerating demands for new features? Join us for this one-hour webinar to learn best practices for user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) design and how to build a safe and secure device, from the operating system on up.

November 2020

  • Webinar: Zero to Hero Visual Studio Code for Embedded Linux Development - November 06, 2020 [Register here]!
    • Interested in learning how you can develop your application with Visual Studio (VS) or Visual Studio Code (VS Code), while also taking advantage of the large Linux ecosystem? Toradex allows you to develop and debug Linux devices in the same way you program for your PC or Windows device. Plugins for VS and VSCode - currently supported are C/C++, Python, Qt and .Net Core - simplify your development workflow. We utilize Torizon on the device side. Torizon is an open-source industrial Linux distribution with a focus on ease-of-use and maintainability. Torizon is based on the proven Toradex Yocto Project BSP and includes a Docker runtime and an automotive-grade update client. Torizon is abstracting many of the difficulties of embedded Linux and lets you focus on your applications. Development tools such as the Security Advisor, Device Tree Configuration, Flash Analytics and the integration with IDEs further simplify development. Experience how to get started from zero - write your first program, deploy and debug it - live!
  • Webinar: Innovative Drag and Drop Hardware Development for Embedded Devices - November 18 , 2020 [Register here]!
    • Learn how Altium and Toradex enable customized embedded computing solutions without the need to draw schematics and layout boards. You will be introduced to Geppetto, a web-based design tool, which lets you create a carrier board for Toradex System on Modules. You choose the module, and draw the outline and drag the interfaces from an extensive portfolio of interfaces and peripherals. Geppetto also simplifies the creation of a Linux image supporting your custom board out-of-the-box. This includes Torizon, the easy-to-use industrial Linux Platform. Prototypes will be available in 7-20 days. In the webinar, we step you through the creation of a custom board featuring a Verdin System on Module with NXP i.MX 8M Mini applications processor.

Here is a list of past Embedded-related events:

October 2020

  • Webinar: Get Started with MIPI-CSI Cameras for Embedded Computer Vision - October 16, 2020 [Register here]!
    • Progress in Computer Vision algorithms such as Deep Learning and ever more performant small embedded systems enable many new use cases. Cameras can now be tightly integrated into an embedded system, as interfaces such as Ethernet and USB are too bulky and add a layer of complexity. The most direct way to connect a modern Camera Sensor is via the MIPI CSI-2. In this webinar, we will show you how the collaboration between e-con Systems and Toradex simplifies the integration of cameras in your products considering both, hardware and software. We will show you the out-of-the-box experience to your first simple OpenCV program and will give you tips and tricks along the way. Additionally, we will explain the most important features to be kept in mind when selecting a camera. We will utilize the latest i.MX 8QuadMax and i.MX 8M Mini applications processors from NXP® on Toradex’s Apalis and Verdin System on Modules(SoMs). On the software side, we will use Torizon and open-source embedded Linux with a focus on the ease-of-use.
  • Webinar: Managing Devices with Linux Device Drivers - October 21, 2020 [Register here]!
    • In this webinar we investigate the why and how of managing peripheral devices in an Arm-based embedded Linux system. Although this is a huge and complex subject area, we can still introduce some of the key concepts and start to appreciate the steps involved in writing a device driver.
  • Webinar: EtherCAT Master Software - from Setup to Application Implementation in no time! - October 28, 2020 [Register here]!
    • EtherCAT is a high-performance, low-cost, easy to use Industrial Ethernet technology with a flexible topology. The only hardware required by the master device is the on-board Ethernet controller. That means that with just a standard Ethernet port, a master device can implement a hard real-time network solution. The Ethernet controller is integrated via Direct Memory Access (DMA), so no CPU capacity is required for the data transfer between the master device and the network. The EC-Master protocol stack is sophisticated, high-performance EtherCAT master software out-of-the-box available on many NXP® i.MX based Toradex SoM boards.

September 2020

  • Webinar: Introduction to Torizon – Japanese - September 24 2020 (ONLINE) Register here!
    • Toradex has created its new Industrial Embedded Linux Software Platform to continue with its eternal motto of “Make Embedded Systems simple”. Torizon’s objective is to make application development more accessible and allow customers to start providing their own added value right from the beginning, avoiding complicated initial setups or opaque development flows. In this webinar we will make a presentation of the Torizon platform, its components and show a short introduction to application development with Torizon. If you want to better understand what Torizon is, how it can improve your development costs and time, and how to get started, feel free to join this webinar. Torizon is here to stay.

August 2020

  • Webinar: Jumpstart your next high-speed PCB design with our experts! [Register here]!
    • The PCB design is the key source and solution for EMC issues. In this webinar, we will explore different stackup examples and try to improve them. We highlight the changes in impedance basis the geometry of the trace and the PCB stackup. We demonstrate how Altium can be used for calculating the trace geometry to get the desired impedance. We will discuss the different length matching requirements of the interfaces and how we can set up rules in Altium Designer. We also learn how Altium Designer can ease the length matching in a complex design.
