January 2021

  • Webinar: Getting Started with Yocto - January 22, 2021 [Register here]!
    • This webinar investigates how a minimal Linux system can be extended to include custom, packaged software. We demonstrate how standard Linux tools, such as gdbserver or the Target Communication Framework agent (TCF agent), drop out of the build system and can be used in a stand-alone SDK. In the process, key concepts of the Yocto Project build system such as recipes, tasks and layers will be introduced. A board from the Toradex Colibri Arm family of SoMs will be used as an example platform.

    • Verdin, the new System on Module standard from Toradex, brings future-proof pinout, a compact form factor, robustness and ease-of-use. One of the key aspects of the Verdin family is that the power requirements are simplified. The standard is battery-ready and you can even use a single-cell power supply thanks to the wide range supply input voltage. Also, the module itself is able to output 1.8V for modern peripherals. Add this to our Direct Breakout™ technology and it all makes it so much easier to design your custom carrier board quicker than ever. In this lightning webinar, we'll introduce the power management concepts of the Verdin family. We'll go over all the available power states and cover some common use cases for powering embedded devices.
  • Lightning Webinar: Securing device updates with OSTree - December 15, 2020 [Register here]!

  • Webinar: Get Started with MIPI-CSI Cameras for Embedded Computer Vision - October 16, 2020 [Register here]!
    • Progress in Computer Vision algorithms such as Deep Learning and ever more performant small embedded systems enable many new use cases. Cameras can now be tightly integrated into an embedded system, as interfaces such as Ethernet and USB are too bulky and add a layer of complexity. The most direct way to connect a modern Camera Sensor is via the MIPI CSI-2. In this webinar, we will show you how the collaboration between e-con Systems and Toradex simplifies the integration of cameras in your products considering both, hardware and software. We will show you the out-of-the-box experience to your first simple OpenCV program and will give you tips and tricks along the way. Additionally, we will explain the most important features to be kept in mind when selecting a camera. We will utilize the latest i.MX 8QuadMax and i.MX 8M Mini applications processors from NXP® on Toradex’s Apalis and Verdin System on Modules(SoMs). On the software side, we will use Torizon and open-source embedded Linux with a focus on the ease-of-use.
  • Webinar: Managing Devices with Linux Device Drivers - October 21, 2020 [Register here]!

  • Webinar: EtherCAT Master Software - from Setup to Application Implementation in no time! - October 28, 2020 [Register here]!
    • EtherCAT is a high-performance, low-cost, easy to use Industrial Ethernet technology with a flexible topology. The only hardware required by the master device is the on-board Ethernet controller. That means that with just a standard Ethernet port, a master device can implement a hard real-time network solution. The Ethernet controller is integrated via Direct Memory Access (DMA), so no CPU capacity is required for the data transfer between the master device and the network. The EC-Master protocol stack is sophisticated, high-performance EtherCAT master software out-of-the-box available on many NXP® i.MX based Toradex SoM boards.
