Question: does this work for video as well?

Answer: in principle yes, but 1) video processing typically is done with dedicated HW accelerators, not just DSP; 2) video buffers are much larger then audio buffers, therefore it's harder to allocate (contiguous) memory. GStreamer 1.0 does have better support for this - see also presentation from Katsuya Matsubara, IGEL.

Welcome to the Multimedia Tech Zone for ELC 2013!!

This page is dedicated to preserving information and discussions about Linux Multimedia from the Embedded Linux Conference. You should think of this page like a "scratchpad" to record your thoughts and discussions from the conference. Most of us take notes at an event, at a talk that interests us, or after we learn something new and useful from another attendee. Here's a place to record those notes in public, so that not only you can access them after the event, but everyone else can as well.

Discussions

What discussions did people have in the tech zone?

Problems and Issues

What issues do you have with "Multimedia"?

What are some possible solutions?

What's going on in the wider community to address these issues?

Memory mangement

There was many presentations on memory management; from the low level malloc() / free() to system wide management strategies.

Memory management and large video file creation

People

Who at ELC is interested in "Multimedia"?

* Ruud Derwig, Synopsys - especially Audio Processing
