All new volunteers please start here

This intention of this page is to consolidate the tasks needed to quickly get up to speed, within the team, into a single bullet point reference list.


All volunteers will need to follow the four steps below, followed by the additional sections depending on the role they will carry out within the team.


  • Read the Information for volunteers
  • Join the MagPi Google Group to see ongoing discussion about the magazine production and get in
  • Join the MMS site (Magazine Management System)
  • Follow the instructions below depending on how you wish to contribute to the magazine

Assist with layouts:

  • Setup a DropBox account and request access in the group email
  • Join Github
    • Request access to TheMagPiGit in the group email
    • Install GitHub scripts
    • Clone the following repositories magpi-templates and magpi-issue* where * is the current issue number being worked on
  • Install Scribus
  • Install Standard Fonts
  • Read TheMagPiLayout
  • Read TheMagPiPdf


Assist with graphics:

  • Setup a DropBox account and request access in the group email
  • Join Github
    • Request access to TheMagPiGit in the group email
    • Install GitHub scripts
    • Clone the following repositories magpi-templates and magpi-issue* where * is the current issue number being worked on
  • Install GIMP


Proof Read and or Test:

Nothing further needed, you can collect finished PDFs from [MMS] / [Isuuu] for proofing / testing.
