rcn added some stuff a while ago back when it was still experimental and really didn't belong on this page, which I commented about so he removed it, but I guess now that u-boot overlays are the default it can be dug up again.
It's going to get harder to give a clear exposition though, since there are now three ways of doing stuff that need to be contrasted side by side.
