I am an old-time unix fart. My unix experience goes back to 1984 or so (when I ported Unix V7 software from PDP11 (with 16 bit ints and pointers ) to MC68000 (with 16 bit ints but 32 bit pointers).
I've been working on various unix related topics over the years (but also had some vacation inbetween :-) ). My most notable achievement was upgrading Minix for the atari ST from version 1.1 to 1.5 and write the associated chapter in the documentation. Much later I fell in love with a Linksys NSLU2 which I hacked quite a lot. See http://www.nslu2-linux.org. My name in that wiki is eFfeM (after my initials).
For work, I did all kind of things for Royal Philips Electronics, mostly in the area of embedded systems.
My eLinux wiki activities
I visited the wiki a while back when looking for optimisation suggestions for an embedded system. At that point the boot time section of the wiki seemed almost dead, so I did not bother to add my findings.
However at the nov 2008 CELF conference a contest was run to get people to contribute. As at that time I just finished part of the analysis on the system and had some time at hand, I decided to enter my findings.
I greatly updated the AXFS page, added several tips and tricks to Boot Time, created the pages Uncompressed kernel, Ramdisks demasked, Avoid Initramfs, Include modules in kernel image, About Compression, Sunplus SPMP3050A and the Embedded wiki issues list (and maybe one or two more I forgot about, including this one :-) ). Also I did a lot of maintenance (repair broken links, de-orphan pages, removed silly refs to non-existing pages, added wikipedia refs, categorize pages etc etc.
Plans are to linger around for a while (and fix and add some things). Seems the boot time area is spinning up again. Also I am interested in the BeagleBoard (planning to get one, but maybe I'll wait for rev C, I would like to have the EHCI USB and the LCD interface (actually the only issues with the board that I see are: no ethernet (but that is solvable with a dongle) and DVI-D instead of HDMI (so an additional audio connection is needed as far as I can see)
