Sensor Interface Cape

Granite SemiCom Inc. (GSC) has developed a BBB Cape intended to be used as a Platform for the fast development of digital output sensor interfaces. Using this Cape, two high end Interfaces intended for connecting to sensors based on Wheatstone bridges, temperature sensitive RTD's, and other sensors having sense voltages in the mV to V range have been developed. The Interfaces include either a 16-bit or a 24-bit A/D, a high-gain programmable front-end, a front-end multiplexor, a voltage reference, and optional digital I/O's. Their specifications equal or exceed the best available. The Cape supports 4 I2C interfaces (possibly having identical addresses), 1 SPI interface, 1 UART interface, and 1 COM interface. All interface channels are level-translated to 5V. The CAPE also includes a real-time clock, a programmable regulator, an EEPROM, a 20-mA 8-bit GPIO, a temperature measurement sensor, output voltage sensor, and a PRU-based Logic-Analyser with sampling frequencies as high as 50 MS/s to help in enabling debug (optionally at a remote location). Finally, numerous headers are included to simplify connecting to Sensor Interfaces and concurrently to the Logic Analyser. Using the Cape Development Platform allows the parallel development of software control GUI's at the same time hardware is being developed minimizing Time-to-Market. Example GUI's for controlling the Cape and the Sensor Interfaces are available.
